The A's B's & C's of Foot and Ankle Function: Anatomy, Assessment, Biomechanics, & Correction of Foot & Ankle Issues with Pilates
Friday, September 19, 2025, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm PST
Livestreaming on Zoom
The foot is one of the most complex systems in our bodies. Feet must function well for any other part of our bodies to function well. During this 3 hour workshop, participants will be guided through the applied anatomy and biomechanics of the foot, and will learn how to observe and interpret non-optimal alignment and movement patterns.
From there, students will practice using key Pilates exercises, modifications and clinical reasoning to unwind and restore dynamic control of the feet. We will explore the causes and rehabilitation of conditions including bunions, plantar fasciitis, plantar flexed first ray, neuromas, excessive supination and pronation, and flexible flat feet.
You will learn:
- An overview of the articulations, muscles, ligaments and nerves of the ankle and foot.
- How to analyze foot function, and the interactions within the lower kinetic chain.
- How to recognize the difference between excellent and poor foot mechanics.
- How to use Pilates exercises to identify foot issues, compensations and biomechanical abnormalities.
- How to employ a whole-body approach to restoring optimal function of the foot.
- How to adapt Pilates exercises for specific foot pathologies, and lower chain issues.

Saturday, September 20, 2025
9 am - 12 pm PST
Walking is essential for optimal health, but what happens if your gait pattern is problematic for your feet, hips or spine? An altered or inefficient gait pattern is the end result of all of the issues and imbalances throughout the body. Everyone’s gait pattern will vary based on the day, environment, footwear, and how they feel. There is not one best gait pattern, but there certainly are significant consequences to 10,000+ inefficient steps per day!
In this workshop, movement professionals will learn about the kinematics of gait, practice gait assessment while observing client videos and motion capture video, and discuss Pilates programming for common issues impairing efficient gait.
